Lake Comedero is a remote mountain lake 100 miles northeast of Mazatlan, Mexico. It is one of the oldest bass fishing Lakes in Mexico. Because it is so remote and because nearby Lake El Salto is more accessible, it has not received much fishing pressure in recent years. After nearly loosing its native black bass population, and restocking with Florida genetic brood bass, the fishing here is better than ever for catch and release fishing fun. This is a clear, cool lake that is teeming with thousands of hungry black bass which will strike almost any type of lure all year. The chances of a new world record class bass being caught at Lake Comedero are quite good. The lake record stands at well over 18 pounds now, with many rumors of larger bass being caught all the time. Lake Comedero could produce a new world record bass at any time and should be on every avid bass anglers list to fish at least once. The lake is open for fishing year round with the best from September through May.

The lake is located 3 to 4 hours from the coastal city of Mazatlan, with a paved road from Mazatlan to the small mining community of Cosala and then approximately another 20 miles of dirt road to the lake. Currently there are only a few outfitters operating at Comedero, because of the very rugged and remote location of this beautiful lake.

When the lake was formed, many villages were taken by the lake. Most of the structures were left in place and with the right lake elevations, these spots can be quite good cover, and a great place to catch larger bass. The main river is the Rio San Lorenzo, which is often fully navigable many kilometers up into the foothills of the State of Durango. The major food for the bass is tilapia which provide ample protein and are the right size for the bass, so the bass grow into football size "GRANDES" in record time. A good all round lure choice is your favorite crank bait along with the usual assortment of plastic and top water baits.
