Lake Agua Milpa is the newest kid on the Mexico bass fishing block. Located on Mexico's largest river, the Rio Santiago, Lake Agua Milpa is a scenic, wishbone-shaped lake that stretches for nearly 70 miles through towering mountains up to 6,000 feet tall with numerous waterfalls.
Subtropical birds and other exotic creatures also dot angler's views for a once in a lifetime experience. This river basin lake is a man made tributary, built solely as a source for hydroelectric power, not as a water supply for irrigation. As long as its water usage plan doesn't change, Lake Agua Milpa shouldn't be impacted by the water fluctuations that have hampered Mexico bass fishing in the past.
Lake Aguamilpa offers the avid bass angler the best bass fishing action of any lake in Mexico, if not the world, with catches of 30 to 100 bass per day ranging in size from three to 10 pounds. The best lake for numbers of bass! The lake record stands at 11.08 pounds. There have been anglers catch as many as 450 fish in one day on this awesome bass fishing lake. Stocked 1992 with a Florida strain largemouth bass the lake was protected from fishing until the fall of 1997. An ideal food base and ideal growing temperatures have made this a "Bass Fishing Paradise."
Most fishing is in relation to abundant shoreline cover with weedless soft plastics, shad pattern crankbaits, topwater plugs and spinnerbaits.
One of the most accessible of Mexico's hot bass fishing lakes, Lake Aqua Milpa can be reached by paved road in three hours from either Guadalajara or Puerto Vallarta. Or by air to Tepic or Nayarit then a short 45 miniute ride.
Lake Agua Milpa is 70,000 acres and is the most accessible of all the Mexican lakes. Stocked in 1992 with Florida strain Large Mouth Bass the lake was protected from fishing until 1997.
