Canyon Lake is one of four reservoirs that were formed by the damming of Salt River in Arizona. Completed in 1925, after two years of construction, the Mormon Flat Dam was built, thus creating Canyon Lake with the surface area of 950 acres. It is the third smallest of the four that were formed along the Salt River. Two of the four, the Apache and Roosevelt Lake are upstream from Canyon Lake.
Canyon Lake lies approximately 15 miles up the Apache Trail from Apache Junction, AZ. Canyon Lake
is within the Superstition Wilderness of Tonto National Forest and is a popular recreation area for the Phoenix
metropolitan area. Recreational amenities include hiking trails, camping sites, and boating all managed by the
United States Forest Service. Also, there is a historic sightseeing tour of the lake and surrounding canyons aboard the Dolly Steamboat. Canyon Lake is a popular stop on the way to Theodore Roosevelt Dam and Tortilla Flat, AZ..
Fishing is grand here with rainbow trout, large and smallmouth bass, yellow bass, crappie, sunfish, channel catfish, walleye and carp all here for the taking.

Catch of the Day
Fished canyon lake on 4-22-09 Tried fishing most of the lake before the bridge and the dam.Fished the area just before going into the back of the lake. no fish so far. Motored around just to an area before the camp sight.Caught one bass about 13in along a small cove I was using a 7in ribbon tail zoom worm in metal flake red. Kept fishing the shore line pitching into the junk caught another bass just under 15in same area caught two more bass over 18in long. One weighed 3lbs 10oz and the other 3lbs 7oz after that caught some smaller bass. 6 bass all together for the day. Ray.
