Lake Shasta, CA, is also called Shasta Lake. It is an artificially made lake created by the construction of Shasta Dam with the capacity of over 4 million acre feet at a full pool. The lake has an elevation of 1,067ft, and a surface area of over 30,000 acres, making it the state's largest reservoir. Also it's third largest body of water after Lake Tahoe and the Salton Sea.
The maximum depth is 514 feet in Lake Shasta. It's a popular destination for boating, water skiing, camping, house boating, and fishing. The shoreline is covered with tall evergreen trees and manzanita. Located at Shasta-Trinity National Forest in Shasta County, CA. Hiking, boat renting, golfing, picnicking and mountain biking are other popular activities at the lake in addition to fishing.
Fish species within the lake are varied and abundant. Species known to inhabit the lake include: rainbow trout, brown trout, Chinook salmon, largemouth bass, spotted bass, small mouth bass, black crappie, bluegill, carp, Sacramento sucker, Sacramento squawfish, riffle sculpin, black fish, hardhead minnow, white sturgeon, channel squawfish, threadfin shad, white catfish, brown bullhead, golden shiner and green sunfish.
