Apache Lake is yet another one of the four artificial reservoirs created along side of the Salt River in central Arizona, as part of the Salt River Project. The Lake is located near the Apache trail, about 65 miles northeast of Phoenix.

The Apache Lake was formed by the Horse Mesa Dam which was completed in 1927, making it the second largest of the four Salt River Projects. Apache Lake Marina and Resort is central Arizona's most complete lake facility.

Surrounded by the Superstition Wilderness and the Three Bar Wildlife Area, Apache Lake is 17 miles long and a spectacular site for boating, fishing, water skiing, hiking, camping, and all forms of outdoor recreation. The lake's secluded coves and painted walls are home to javelina, big horn sheep, eagle, deer, and a host of desert wildlife. Fish specie including small mouth and large mouth bass are the prized catches of the lake. Walleyes, crappie, and catfish are also popular species that can be fished from Apache Lake.

Average Depth: 240ft.
Elevation: 1,900ft.

Catch, Photo & Release

Catch of the Day

As of september 1st, Fall pattern fishing has begun. With night temps dropping, the surface temps begin to rapidly cool. This cooling of the hot summer water energizes all species of fish. Fish tend to leave the deep water wholes, and migrate to the shallows in search of food. When the fish do this, it is called making a transition. When fish are in transition, they tend to move alot from deep to shallow, and from shallow to deep. Transitioning fish can be hard to catch. However, it wont be long before they commit to the shallow water, and begin what i call a fall feast. Reaction baits work best during this time, and covering alot of water is important. Suggested baits of choice are: Buzzbaits, top-waters,Spinnerbaits, Hard/Soft jerkbaits, and shallow crankbaits. Good Luck Anglers!!!!!
