Lyman Lake is the largest reservoir in the region with great amenities and no boat motor restrictions. Lyman Lake State Park, is located in, and administered by the Apache-Sitgreaves National Forest, attracts anglers, as well as campers and water skiers year round. Located on Highway 180/191, north of Springerville, AZ and south of St. Johns, AZ. The lake is a warm reservoir containing rainbow trout, largemouth bass, green sunfish, channel catfish, and a few walleye. Camping, swimming, fishing, boating, and other outdoor activities are allowed at Lyman Lake. The lake lies entirely within Lyman Lake State Park. As the largest lake in the White Mountains region, Lyman Lake has about 1,500 acres of water surface. When full the average depth is 22 feet with a maximum depth of about 57 feet. There is a boat ramp, fish-cleaning station, picnic tables, shaded gathering areas, showers, and a dump station. A well stocked convenience stop which sells bait, tackle, ice, groceries and firewood is open from early April until the end of September. For boating enthusiasts who enjoy fishing, this is an ideal lake environment. There is no power restriction on boats, so leisure boating, speed boating and water-skiing is permitted at Lyman. But the west end of the lake is buoyed-off as a "no wake area" creating a safer swimming and convenient shore fishing area. This is a great lake for beginning fishermen and children. Fishing for catfish is best at the upper end of the lake using night crawlers or chicken livers. Bass and walleye are most active along rocky and weedy areas of the lake.
